I suppose every artist has that project that turns into an epic fail! This one took me a few days to work through all the steps and it really did qualify to be tossed in the trash.

What it was supposed to be: Lavender Scented NJ Air Fresheners

What it turned out to be: A big mess that did NOT smell at all like lavender. The handmade paper never achieved that pulpy texture. That is why is still looks like the pieces of Sunday Comics that I used to start the project. This meant that the paper flaked off.

Still I had a few friends who liked the design and took them home. It was a big mess but I learned a few things so will try again!!

Spring cannot come soon enough. Since we really didn’t have a winter that could be measured in inches of snow it seemed that the cold and damp unpredictable weather would go on and on….

I am in love with chalkboard paint! There are so many possible ways to use it. This was done on a piece of all roofing shingle (notice the holes are not quite even). I painted one side with the chalkboard paint and wrote my “Hurry Up Spring” message on it. I suppose when that gets old I will change it to “Hurry Up Summer” LoL. We are never quite happy with the weather in New Jersey!!

In honor of St. Paddy’s Day I worked on 2 bowls I made from an old green shirt!

I was asked last weekend if I can do custom bowls and the answer is YES! Just bring your shirt or clothing item to me and within a few weeks I will have it back to you in bowl form. Inquire at Jersey Made or call the shop for more information. 609-914-1536

Jersey Times – The Artsy Tales of Holly Doyle

I am excited to announce that I am now the writer of a monthly zine (basically a small version of a magazine). It will be available at Jersey Made and also on my Etsy shop for just $3. Jam packed 20 pages of artwork, information and tidbits of awesome stuff even in black & white!

Lines on the Pines 8 was a wonderful event. I was there with my recycled artwork on display. This was my first year as a participant although I have been enjoying this event for several years as a visitor!

My friend Ken came to see the event and say hello too!

Steven was also there selling Volumes I and II of his Portraits of Ancestors.

What an inspiring day!

Another project with the beeswax! It’s is so cool how things adhere to the wood just with the wax. Probably not a good idea to have in the heat of summer!!

Adventures with beeswax was a really interesting project and will probably a class soon to come at Jersey Made. These pressed greens were the starting point for our first blocks. The rest are miscellaneous objects found laying around and added for accents.

Linda did a theme with her 2 blocks “Home, sweet, home” so it was exciting that we found sheet music for a song named just that!

Using natural organic yarn is something entirely new for me and I loved it!! Perhaps it could have been a hat but I chose to make it a bowl that I can use to decorate with some of the pretty yarns I have waiting to become something.

It took me a little longer than a week but I was very pleased with the results!
